Ganirelix and Cetrorelix

Ganirelix (Antagon) and cetrorelix (Cetrotide) belong to a class of drugs known as gonadotropin releasing hormone antagonists. These drugs have a similar effect as lupron, but their mechanism of action is slightly different. Whereas lupron takes several days to suppress the pituitary gland, ganirelix and cetrorelix cause immediate pituitary suppression. These drugs are used in IVF cycles to prevent a premature LH surge and are given as a subcutaneous injection.
